We are delighted to have you as a host on your upcoming Light of the Southwest program!
We are incredibly excited to share some of this information with you about our new recording format and how it better connects our viewers with you and our guests!
In short, we are launching a more intentional “digital outreach” by leveraging powerful tools on select video platforms in order to increase viewer/guest interaction, creating a more vibrant and dynamic programming experience for all! During this first phase, we are primarily utilizing the YouTube platform due to its live streaming toolset and amazing functionality. Details below…
1) The ability for both our hosts and guests to record from any location they choose. Likewise, our studios are always available for you to film at if you prefer, but this will require a little bit more planning and scheduling for a taping crew and to ensure proper setup/teardown, etc. On that note, there are just a few “asks” from our end if you choose to record from your own location (keep reading for more info).
2) The ability for our viewers to leave comments or ask questions and have them answered on-air in real time! As a host, this will be a partial responsibility that we ask you maintain during the course of the program by ensuring that viewer comments and questions be read and addressed. That said, there will usually be a GLC producer in the wings to help guide the format of each program so that the burden doesn't fall 100% on your shoulders to keep track of the overall flow.3)If you choose to join a program from your own location, we ask that you consider the following…
Please ensure that your chosen location is somewhat “private” such as a secure room in your home or office that is free from visual or audible distractions. Please ensure that you have a strong and stable internet connection. If possible, it is always better to have a “wired” internet connection as opposed to Wi-fi, however, we understand that in most cases Wi-fi might be the only option, so we ask that you double-check the signal strength of your Wi-fi signal at your chosen location.
We hope that you will continue to host programs with us, so we ask that you consider a small investment in quality to ensure the best possible image/sound from a production standpoint. In short, we have made some recommendations of affordable cameras, microphones, lighting kits and even laptops on our Amazon Bookstore at the following link: GLC Amazon Bookstore . We have also assembled a “Best Practices” YouTube playlist just for you that will give you all of the information you’ll need for a successful home or office recording session:”Best Practices- Playlist” . This playlist is designed to cover the 3 most important aspects of video recording: cameras, audio and most importantly, lighting. There is no expectation to follow every single guideline provided, but we do ask that you take a bit of time to set up an intentional/effective recording space…there's a TON of great information on this playlist. Final thing to note on these matters is that audio can be paramount when recording. We ask that you have a microphone that's no further than one and a half feet (12.5 inches) away from your mouth in order to capture the most professional sound possible. In this case, if you are using a phone, you might need to purchase an additional peripheral microphone, headset mic or lapel mic that will connect to your device. Likewise, (if you're comfortable with it) wearing headphones in order to hear others during the live stream is preferable, but not mandatory. In many situations, YouTubers will opt to utilize earphones/ buds that have a quality built-in microphone. Lastly, if you choose not to wear earbuds or headphones, we ask that you keep the volume from your device as low as possible, so that the sound does not bleed back into the recording or cause an echo effect.
Lighting has been covered in the recommended playlist above, but just a couple helpful tips to make sure that your footage is not too dark or too washed out (bright). Typically, you do not want to film yourself in front of a window or even with a window in the back of the room behind you, because as a general guideline, cameras will expose to that bright light instead of exposing to the light that is on your face. It is possible to film in front of a window, but this would require you to have supplemental lighting on your person (which is recommended regardless). The best practice, if you are in a room with a window, is to either use the window as a light source from the side or the front or simply close the blinds, curtains or shutters to the window and you supplemental lighting instead. If you have any questions on this, please don't hesitate to ask and always know that most of these questions can be answered by a simple YouTube search.
4) Finally, since our hosts are responsible for “steering” the programs, we ask that you are diligent in promoting a few key features of the live streaming format that are available on this platform.
First and foremost, it is imperative that we encourage our live viewers to “like” (thumbs up) the video, but more importantly, that they also subscribe to our channel. All of these features (buttons) are located directly below the video panel and they might have to close the live chat box (if they’re on mobile) in order to access. Once they have subscribed, they have the option of clicking the notification bell so that they receive notifications when new videos are posted. For example, a typical statement for something like this would be…
“We’re so glad you’re watching and we ask that if you’re enjoying this program, please
click the ‘subscribe’ button below and be sure to like this video by giving us a thumbs
up… then ensure you ring the notification bell that appears once you’ve subscribed”
The above statement is a very common practice for YouTubers across the streaming spectrum, so it is very important that we continue to repeat this statement throughout the course of the program. These are the key elements that help us grow our digital outreach, by bringing these viewers into the fold and keeping them posted on all of our new content!Similar to the above statement, we ask that viewers be encouraged to get the questions and comments in throughout the program. Specifically, we ask that viewers make donations by placing what’s called “Superchats” which are available by clicking the $ icon below the chatbox. This is a quick and easy way for viewers to show their appreciation for the content/guest and it helps pay for the important mission at GLC. On all programs, we will have a Q&A time at the conclusion of the show (Superchats will get priority during this time), but where appropriate, we ask that our hosts build in short Q&A times throughout the entire program because this practice has been proven to boost audience retention throughout the course of the show. So again, we ask our hosts to be sure to make time throughout the program for questions and comments with a definite Q&A session at the end… we promise, viewers LOVE it!
For in-studio interviews, our address is 12706 W Hwy 80 E, use business I20 for the fastest route. We ask that you enter the Master Control entrance, near the tower on the southeast side of the building. Please ring the bell to let us know when you’ve arrived.
For chosen-location interviews, please provide your preferred email address for the online invitation. We'll then send you a link that allows you access, so please check your email (possibly even spam or junk folders) for a link.
Please fill out the attached consent and release form. NOTE: keep in mind that whatever you provide on the section titled "On Screen Guest Information" will be shown as-is during the broadcast. Completed guest paperwork can be emailed to a GLC representative prior to recording or submitted to the crew upon arrival to the station.
If you have media such as video, photos, or other graphics that you want used on your show, those can be sent as well, or have it with you on a flash drive when you arrive at least 30 minutes prior to record-time.
Here are a few things to keep in mind while recording your program:
The show is recorded in one hour increments, but if you feel led, we can absolutely record additional segments. This gives GLC and your ministry an opportunity for increased exposure. For studio appearances, there are 2 filming areas in the studio available for you to use to preach/teach if you feel led. Please let one of the crew know prior to recording so they can prepare sets if necessary.
While you’re absolutely encouraged to discuss your ministry or outreach and needs, we also ask that you voice how GLC has blessed your ministry and encourage viewers to help us out financially by an online donation, a Super chat through YouTube or even a "subscribe" to our channel!
When your program(s) are ready to premiere, we will contact you with details about the air-date. Be sure to tell your friends, family/congregations and social platforms that they can view your program as well as many others via our usual broadcasting demographic on cable or antenna or worldwide on our YouTube (https://youtube.com/@GodsLearningChannel) channel or Roku and FireTV apps. We can provide links to the shows as well.
We are looking forward to these new and exciting days ahead and we’re grateful that you’re part of our mission!
